The Network Development Committee, headed by John Martos, is responsible for developing and growing the number and capabilities of the neighborhood groups.  This includes identifying and supporting groups, connecting people to groups & building group & individual competencies

Network Development Plan

Vision

By December 2012, the Burlingame Neighborhood Network will exist as a network of active neighborhood groups throughout the city of Burlingame that are integrated into the city-wide emergency response system and which can actively participate in a city-wide emergency drill or real response to natural or manmade disasters.

Mission

Building a network of neighbors prepared & self sufficient in case of a major disaster.

Objectives / Goals

  • Increase number of block captains to cover at least 70% of the city
  • Increase number of active neighborhood groups from 4 to 20
  • Increase number of CERT trained citizens from 50 to 200

Strategies

  • Increase number of active groups by identifying deficient areas and mentoring block captains
  • Increase number of CERT trained citizens by publicizing training & identifying recruits
  • Increase BNN membership by publicizing through BNN website, email and mailings

Action Plans

  • Build a model for block captains to launch and sustain groups by April 2011
  • Each block group will identify current and future CERT members by June 2011
  • Map existing Block Groups and identify gaps in network coverage by June 2011
  • Mentor block captains on usage of Block Captain’s manual by August 2011
  • Develop a block group maturity readiness system by October 2011
  • Inventory the skills, personnel, and equipment of each neighborhood by June 2012
